{"id":11300,"date":"2016-04-19T07:05:40","date_gmt":"2016-04-19T12:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/?p=11300"},"modified":"2016-04-19T07:05:40","modified_gmt":"2016-04-19T12:05:40","slug":"steampunk-band-patches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/?p=11300","title":{"rendered":"Steampunk Band Patches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/patch.jpg\" alt=\"Steampunk Patch\" title=\"Steampunk Patch\" width=\"110\" height=\"153\" class=\"contentimg\" \/>A while back, Trystan of Gothic Martha Stewart made a steampunky <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trystancraft.com\/costume\/tag\/lady-artisans-apron\/\">lady artisan&#8217;s apron<\/a> and decided to cover it with faux &#8220;band patches.&#8221;  She eventually decided to make <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/patches.jpg\">cross-fandom patches<\/a> (including a Holyhead Harpies Quidditch team patch and a UNIT insignia), but her original intention was to use band names made up from Victorian novels.<\/p>\n<p>She made a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trystancraft.com\/costume\/2007\/07\/04\/steampunk-early-in-the-a-m\/\">list of potential names<\/a>, and although I think &#8220;Mina and the Harkers&#8221; is still my favorite, &#8220;The Madwoman in the Attic,&#8221; &#8220;The Wildfell Tenants,&#8221; &#8220;Lucy Snowe&#8217;s Secret,&#8221; and &#8220;The Desperate Remedies&#8221; are 100% bands that I would go out of my way to see.<\/p>\n<p>Similar patches would be a great way to add a little life to a boring jacket or tote.  If you have access to an embroidery machine or like to hand-embroider you can make applique patches.  There are also many companies who will make custom patches with a small (usually 10-piece) minimum order, so if you want to club together with a few friends you can get professional-looking designs (you could probably also sell the excess on Etsy).  If you have an inkjet printer you can also use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Avery-Printable-Fabric-Printers-03384\/dp\/B0000C0CJZ\/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=shadmano-20&#038;qid=1461066832&#038;sr=8-2\" rel=\"nofollow\">printable sheets<\/a> which can be ironed on to fabric.  That option is a bit cheaper and would also allow for greater detail in your patch design.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, if Victorian novels don&#8217;t appeal to you there are dozens of other fandoms from which to draw inspiration.
