{"id":13992,"date":"2015-08-20T05:32:17","date_gmt":"2015-08-20T10:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/?p=13992"},"modified":"2015-07-29T08:17:42","modified_gmt":"2015-07-29T13:17:42","slug":"creepy-crackers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/?p=13992","title":{"rendered":"Creepy Crackers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shadowmanor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/cracker5-150x85.jpg\" alt=\"Finished Cracker\" width=\"150\" height=\"85\" class=\"contentimg\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christmas_cracker\">Christmas crackers<\/a> are part of traditional holiday celebrations in the UK, Australia, and several other countries.*  They consist of a cardboard tube filled with candy and novelties (usually including a paper crown and a fortune cookie-type strip of paper with jokes), a strip of thin cardboard containing the same chemical that makes popguns go bang, and a wrapping of tissue paper.  When the ends of the tissue are pulled, the cardboard thingie makes a cracking noise and you harvest the treats inside.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no reason why these things have to be limited to Christmas.  I can think of another holiday that&#8217;s big on treats.  Can&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\n<br \/>\n<b>You will need:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cardboard tubes; empty toilet tissue rolls are the perfect size<\/li>\n<li>Cracker snaps (see below)<\/li>\n<li>Small novelties and candy<\/li>\n<li>Tissue paper (see below)<\/li>\n<li>Narrow ribbon<\/li>\n<li>Halloween-themed stickers (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cracker snaps can be purchased at some craft stores and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldenglishcrackers.com\/product\/cracker-snaps\/\">online<\/a>.  I actually found a children&#8217;s activity kit on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Christmas-Cracker-Kits-Children-Decorate\/dp\/B00NC0VA72\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=shadmano-20&#038;qid=1425063817&#038;sr=8-1\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amazon<\/a> which included the cracker snaps, paper crowns, and jokes for cheaper than I could buy just the cracker snaps.<\/p>\n<p>You can find all kinds of wonderful Halloween-themed wrapping paper meant for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Scrapbook-Customs-Themed-Stickers-Halloween\/dp\/B00EVJ0ONO\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=shadmano-20&#038;qid=1436910823&#038;sr=8-1\" rel=\"nofollow\">scrapbooking<\/a>; I actually created this post as a way to use up some Halloween scrapbook paper I&#8217;d been given and&#8230;I can&#8217;t find the stinkin&#8217; paper anywhere. If desired, decorate the outside of the cracker with stickers or other lightweight items.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom:15px\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>And&#8230;done!  The ends of my cracker are a bit wrinkly; for more precise edges with only a bit more work, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicaandjo.com\/2008\/11\/19\/make-traditional-english-christmas-crackers\/\">Chica and Jo&#8217;s<\/a> tutorial for making Christmas crackers.<\/p>\n<p>These are easy to make and a pile of them would be a big hit at a Halloween party.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\n<br \/>\n*But not in the US.  When I was in fifth grade my dad returned from a business trip with a bunch of crackers for me to hand out to my classmates.
