The Wicker Link Dump

Rise – Amusing ‘toon. (via Pixel Pixie)

Elin Thomas – Fiber artist whose works include a collection of mould and lichen. The crocheted “petri dishes” are particularly interesting.

Todd and Annette – Sweet little story based on the writing prompt, “An old and homely grandmother accidentally summons a demon. She mistakes him for her gothic-phase teenage grandson and takes care of him. The demon decides to stay at his new home.”

Famous American Ghosts – An amusing roundup.

Inflatable Coffin Buffet – Coffin-shaped cooler for parties; it’d also be fun to float in a pool. (The vendor has a European site as well.)

A Guide Through the Haunting World of “Folk Horror” – Bandcamp has a roundup of dark, pagany, folk-ish music.

Gothic Toggs – Some attractive clothing. This jacket is certainly imposing.

The Apprehension Engine – An instrument created for horror movie soundtracks, to play “the music of nightmares.”

Falconry – A short primer on taking up the sport.

Hong Kong’s Fortune Teller Shops – Interesting photo series of the oddly office-like shops run by fortune tellers in Hong Kong. These are all clearly Executive Fortune Tellers. (Hat tip to pdq)

No Link Dump For Old Men

Dread Singles – Novelty Twitter account with a bit of a Night Vale vibe. Tends to break character more than Night Vale.

26 Dark AF Kitchen Products To Match Your Soul – Clickbaity headline, a couple of interesting products.

Lovecraft Country – Jordan Peele is adapting the novel into a series for HBO.

Beatrix Potter’s Secret Journal – Potter kept a coded journal for years, and a “superfan” was finally able to translate it.

Skull Obsession – Skull-themed clothing and accessories. I love these boots.

100 Best Horror Movies of All Time – A list about which to kibitz.

The Cider That Comes From Beyond the Grave – Malus Immortalis is a limited-edition cider made with apples foraged from a famous Brooklyn cemetery. (via Beth)

Arsenic and Old Link Dumps

June 16th, 2017 by Cobwebs

Bioshock Doll – Really nice “Little Sister,” plus accessories, all handmade.

How a Raven Chose a Man as Her Mate – The title of this video clip is slightly misleading, but it’s a cute look at the “special bond” between the Tower of London’s Ravenmaster and one of his charges.

Under the Knife – YouTube series that “takes a humorous look back into our medical past.” This is a really neat channel. (Hat tip to Pixel Pixie)

Flower Dinosaurs – This deep learning cross between a book of dinosaurs and a book of flowers is gorgeous.

Unknown Peoples – Interesting Twitter feed which tweets out short descriptions of mythical races and cultures, such as, “The Culture of the Bog. Their society includes eleven distinct genders. They have been exiled from their homeland.” and “The Northern Tribe. They paint stripes across their horns with teal clay. Their merchants are rumoured to trade ideas for gold.” Might be useful for RPG worldbuilding.

Bokaclava – Pattern for a balaclava that looks like the classic Doctor Who monster Bok if you know who that is, and like a demon sticking its tongue out if you don’t. (Hat tip to Jan)

NerdLacquer – Fandom-themed lip balm and nail polish with names like “Carrie,” “Blavatsky,” and “General Effing Leia.”

Conjuring Arts Research Center – Atlas Obscura explores a library devoted to magic (the Houdini kind, not the Harry Potter kind).

At Home Imagineering – Custom home theater styled after 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and full of steampunky goodness.

Decomposing Daiquiri – A friend posted this, explaining that the ice cubes are made from frozen Zombie. “The drink gradually transforms from a Daiquiri into a Zombie as the ice cube ‘decomposes.'” Fun idea for a party. (Link just goes to a photo.)

Welcome to my bed and breakfast. You have the choice of being buried in the attic or basement. Just kidding! The haunted dolls decide.

If I were Belle, there’s no way I could shit in the castle. How do you know that’s a real toilet, not Hank the servent with the scat fetish?

There is nothing like the sound of a child’s laughter to remind you that your apartment is haunted.

A guide to being an apathetic Byronic aristocrat vampire in the 21st century – A series of helpful suggestions. (Hat tip to Pixel Pixie)

Porca Miseria! – Really interesting chandelier that looks like exploding crockery. If you have access to Facebook, there’s a better photo here.

Reader, I shagged him: Why Charlotte Brontë was a filthy minx – An argument that Brontë’s biographer sanitized the “filthy, frustrated, sex-obsessed genius.”

Pigeon Shoes – From Japan, natch. You could use the same general guidelines to do ravens instead of pigeons.

Alien Recut as a Comedy – I love a good genre-swapping trailer. This one reimagines the original Alien as a sci-fi comedy featuring a troublesome kitten.
