I’m not 100% sure, but the ‘Each night Father fills me with dread’ looks similar to some other illustrations I’ve seen from either Edward Gorey’s “Amphigorey” or “The Listing Attic”.

I found and interesting and rather cute vicious Cretaceous creature, neither shrimp nor insect. It had 4 segmented eyes and no mouth parts,. It fed by viciously impailing its prey with sharp harpoom like structures in all eights of it’s legs and pumping in a highly nerotoxic venum laced with strong digestine enzimes and sucking out the liquified tissues through it’s feet. It was a sea dwelling ambush killer. Ill see if i can find it
