Dead Fairy How-To
I mentioned the Dead Fairy Hoax a while back, opining that something similar might be made using a miniature skeleton as a base. I finally decided to take a crack at making one, and I have to say that I’m rather pleased at how it turned out.
The project was much less difficult than I’d feared; there are a fair number of steps, but each individual one is pretty easy. (Also, it’s supposed to be a half-rotted corpse; if you mess something up, how would anybody know?)
If you’d like to try your hand at something similar, I’ve posted a tutorial here.

Great job! That’s the same way I corpse out my Bucky skeletons. Pantyhose, latex, wood stain, (love the dog hair idea), and go from there. Your pixies are to “die for”!!

*ROFL*
I have been working on something like this all week, and am not sure it will come out looking nearly as good as yours for all that my technique has been a lot more labor-intensive (and the learning curve was steep).
I have another skeleton though! I can try your method with that one! And compare! Your tutorial is great, just great. The leaves idea is wonderful and really pins the whole thing down once it’s mounted. I’m going to try to make my own wings out of printable transparency acetate, some Fantasy Film, and a wing design I made myself, but am concerned that they won’t look as ravaged by decay as I would prefer.
I am having fun and making gross stuff that actually made one of my friends leap away in disgust, though. (“Look, it has organs!” “AAAAUGH!”) Isn’t that what it’s all about?
(And would you like links to pics once I have them?)

I would like to use the picture of the fairy in the box on the NaNoWriMo.org site as part of the cover of my novel. Not as the official published cover, just as the fun-in-progress cover. I haven’t got time to make my own fairy before Nov 1.
Will give you credit for pic of course.
Thanks
Bert

Great Tutorial, Will definitely have to make one. A real skeleton inside. Clever! I was fooled somewhat by the dead fairy hoax a few years back, even posted it on my website, The wings were the almost give away Arrrgh sucked in.
