This company offers handmade candles with scents like “Dracula,” “Crypt Moss,” and “Harvest.” Their votives would make nice wedding favors, too.

I got their “Vampire” collection (Cain, Dracula, Lilith, Nosferatu) a while back, and I hated to light them because they smelled so good. They currently live a quiet existence in my prop closet, hitting me in the face with a wave of patchouli and clove and making me smile whenever I open the door.*

*Which is fairly often. I wondered the other day how many suburban homes have a big box labeled “Bones” in their basement.

I served this wine at my wedding, but it appears that they’ve expanded their selection significantly when I wasn’t looking. They may also be offering a soft drink called “Dracola,” but that part of the site is all in Flash, which I hate with the white-hot fury of a thousand suns, so you’re on your own if you want to check that out.

Anyway, these guys used to sell a couple of red wines with funky labels, but now it looks like they’ve got a whole range (including white, which somehow seems all wrong) and the labels are a little more polished.

Gothic Beauty

Here’s a decorative item that has loads of possibilities for the crafty types amongst us. The commercially-available version of this is, uh, pricey,* but it could be replicated at home, and better.

Visit your local ceramics store (they’re all over the place, and they pour all kinds of kitsch) and buy an appropriately-sized doll’s head in greenware. Drill a candle-sized hole in it, then take it back and have them fire it for you. You can leave it plain or paint it (make sure that the paint you use is for ceramics). Easy and cheap!


*I wouldn’t spend $80 on something that didn’t give people the fantods, let alone something I had to hide when my mom came to visit.

Whether you’re a collector of tarot cards, or whether you’re just starting out (in which case see my cheat guide here), I have to recommend the “Gothic Tarot” deck that I recently treated myself to. It is really lovely, and it follows the “standard” deck closely enough that even newbies can use it. Very nice indeed.
