The Art of Darkness

Spooky “Specimens”

September 1st, 2011 by Cobwebs

BatsThis is simply brilliant.

Jen of Tatertots and Jello decided to take Ali Edwards’ lovely punch collages and make them a little darker. She used some Martha Stewart craft punches shaped like spiders and bats and some Halloween-themed paper to create a spooky (and completely humane) version of a butterfly collection.

She’s got a full tutorial with lots of photos and some great suggestions for doing this project on the cheap.

The article seems to suggest that she views these as seasonal decorations and only brings them out around Halloween, but that’s just crazy talk; these are attractive enough to leave up all year.

Okay, it’s official. I’m stalking you just so I can look over your shoulder and figure out where you find this stuff.

I will go away now. To make a specimen box for my Naturalist’s Study. I promise to just lurk and not comment on every single post from now on.

I was thinking of doing a paper collage of my favorite papers, but I had yet to decide on my preferred punch (because really, not all girls are about hearts and butterflies.) Seeing the bats up there, I believe I’ve found it…
