Harry Potter Dinner Party

October 8th, 2015 by Cobwebs

Potions ClassroomFood in Literature is an amazing site which tries to re-create foods found in books, from Willy Wonka’s Whipple Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight to James Bond’s Vesper Martini.

The site also has a number of fantastically-detailed dinner party ideas, with themes including Alice in Wonderland, Sleepy Hollow, Treasure Island, and The Hobbit. The most recent party was themed around Harry Potter, and the result is just splendid. From the party invitations (sent by Muggle Mail, “so as not to confuse the mailman”) to candles floating in midair over the dining table, to a friendly owl waiting to greet guests at the door, the attention to detail is spot-on.

Here’s a breakdown of the decoration and food:

Be sure to browse the rest of the site too; it’s a trove of great party ideas.

Just the first page itself has inspired me with a bunch of ideas:
    1. If I ever live at a number 9, I’m adding either a dog house, cubby, or granny flat that is going to be “9 3/4”.
    2. I need to make myself some homemade potato stamps or something because the brown-paper-tied-with-string looks great on presents and I think a stamp or two would add Christmas perfection. I’m so trying that this year.
    3. I already have old lamps and whatnot. I’m gunna start stacking old books under them. Evidently it looks freaking rad, and if it looks shite I’ll just put the books back on the shelf. My Barnes & Noble Classics collection would look awesome.

The amount of work for that party is just astounding.

We’d planned a Hitchhikers-themed party for my husband’s 42nd birthday this year, but his mum passed away unexpectedly so we’ve not really been in the mood for parties. Maybe next year for mine…
