The Art of Darkness

Mask Gallery

June 28th, 2010 by Cobwebs

MaskI’ve had this gallery of masks knocking around in my Drafts folder for so long that I’ve forgotten where it came from originally. There aren’t any descriptions or design information, but a bit of googling seems to confirm that they’re all the work of Linda Bergkvist, who has a blog/portfolio here (some of her paintings are NSFW).

The masks are simply lovely, and are a wonderful source of inspiration. There are a wide range of styles, using everything from feathers and jewels to what appears to be filigree made with hot glue. If you’re looking for a mask to complete a costume–or even to build a costume around–there are some fantastic ideas here.

These masks remind me of a great short story: Sinner, Baker, Fabulist, Priest; Red Mask, Black Mask, Gentleman, Beast. You can read it here or (and this is totally worth it) listen to it being read here.

Listen to it while looking at the masks for full effect.
