Listen to the Bananas

Accusatory Bananas

You guys, I heart The Bloggess so much.

She recently saw a lifehack about lightly tracing words on banana peels with a toothpick; over several hours the tracing darkens and the words appear.

The person writing the tip suggested writing sweet notes for your kids on their bananas. I promptly went and traced notes on all of our bananas and then immediately forgot about it, until the next day when I heard Victor screaming about how the bananas were talking to him.

She details the rest of the story here and also solicits readers’ suggestions for paranoid-sounding things to write on bananas at the grocery store. There are well over 400 comments so far, with some of my favorites being:

that shirt? really?
The monkeys scare me.
No, I’m not happy to see you.
You’re being followed. NO! Don’t look!
This banana intentionally left blank.
Fuck Apples.

I can foresee a news item about mysterious banana notes popping up in grocery stores worldwide in the very near future.
