The Art of Darkness

Temporary Tattoo Nails

September 4th, 2013 by Cobwebs

X-ray NailsI recently ran across these fantastic X-ray nails and tracked them back to Nailgasm. They’re done by printing the desired image on temporary tattoo paper and then transferring it to the nail. This is just a brilliant idea, and it opens up all sorts of interesting possibilities.

The site nas a step-by-step tutorial for creating the effect, along with some handy photos of how the transferred images look applied over different colors of nail polish. In addition to the X-rays, there’s also a set featuring the art of Francis Bacon which were worn to a gallery opening (an excellent use for them, methinks).

The blogger credits the original idea to the site More Nail Polish, which has a somewhat similar tutorial and lots more examples of the effects you can create. I particularly like the autumn leaves, purple dragon, and (most particularly) these adorable little ghosts. Search “tattoo” on the site for many more ideas.

This is just marvelous, because it means that if you’ve got access to image software and a color printer, you can put pretty much anything you want on your nails. For those of us without the artistic skills to hand-paint miniature images,* this is a huge help.

Incidentally, in addition to the temporary tattoo ideas, both sites have loads of other amazing nail art. Check out Nailgasm’s spiders and really outrageous armored nails, and More Nail Polish’s bats, witches, graveyard, and amazing 3-D spiders.

*I, personally, have the artistic skills of Rembrandt. If he were hogtied and thrown in a bag of rabid weasels.
